Forget Ditch New Year’s Resolution Day
We were in the middle of a planning meeting for A+MD 2018 recently when the topic of New Year’s Resolutions came up. A few of us were surprised to learn that January 17th is officially known as Ditch New Year’s Resolutions Day. Being an avid resolution setters ourselves, we got to thinking about what it takes to actually follow through. What follows is a summary of our entirely unproductive meeting.
We're pleased to announce that as of today, January 17th, we've developed a plan to help you accomplish your New Year’s Resolutions. Here’s what you need to do...
Learn Something New
The first thing we did was search for interesting facts. Did you know that the lighter was invented before the match? We didn’t. Or, did you know that banging your head against a wall burns 150 calories an hour? Sure, these might be useless facts, but they still count in our book. If they don’t count for you, we hope to see you May 9-12 at A+MD, where you'll undoubtedly learn something new that’s much more useful.
See the second useless fact above. (Just kidding!) We researched ways to lose weight and found some unusual results. It turns out singing in the shower can burn 20 calories per song, and laughing for 10 minutes will burn 20-40 calories. Unfortunately, most of us already do these things. Someone brought up cutting out alcohol, but that idea wasn't very well received. So, we've decided weight loss is a great resolution for 2019! Besides, the food at A+MD is always spectacular! If moving weight loss to 2019 won't work for you, you'll have to join us at A+MD to browse the exhibit hall to find all the latest fat-busting tech!
Travel to New Places
If you’ve resolved to travel to new places and haven’t been to Coeur d’Alene, ID – the location of our annual meeting – you’re in for a treat. Imagine five-star amenities in a beautifully rugged Northwest setting! If this won't be your first year visiting Coeur d'Alene, you could at least try out a new-to-you restaurant or coffee shop. (Our backup idea is going for a hike because it covers both new places and travel.)
Apparently saving money could be as “easy” as shifting your thinking. We read on a psychology blog that “…if you tell yourself don’t buy something instead of can’t buy something, you are taking away the negative emotion and empowering yourself.” Still, that sounds easier said than done. If you’ve resolved to save more money in 2018, my advice is to register for A+MD before the early registration discount expires next week. Already registered? Then you’re already saving money in 2018!
